Final Paper and Research Question

I decided to choose my topic on Pinterest.  I was planning on writing how Pinterest sparked creativity throughout society.   I know that it’s part of social media and is becoming a lot more popular throughout American culture.  Right now, I would say that it’s part of social media as we are so involved with social media.  I am going to write some statistics and look up more scholarly articles.  I’m planning on providing an in-depth reflection of how it affects popular culture, the demographics of the social media, and how it’s different than some specific social media such as Instagram and Tumblr.

  1. Hi, Christina! I think it is great choice! You are right! Social media is becoming more popular throughout American Culture. In my opinion, it will be very interesting to use some statistics for research. The topic of Pinterest is very good for scholarly articles.

    What is a Pinterest?
1)Pinterest is a tool for collecting and organizing things you love.
2)Pinterest is a pinboard-style photo-sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests, and hobbies. Users can browse other pinboards for images, "re-pin" images to their own pinboards, or "like" photos. The site was founded by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra and Evan Sharp. It is managed by Cold Brew Labs and funded by a small group of entrepreneurs and investors.(Wikipedia)
I think, the article could be very interesting.

  2. How does Pinterest inspire creativity? This website enables people to find pictures and just “pin” them on their “bulletin board.” What for? Is this like cutting out advertisements from magazines to be used as collages? Or do people find inspiration for crafts by viewing images? What demographic uses Pinterest? You stated, “throughout society” sounds as if this site is “needed.” Why do we “need” Pinterest to inspire creativity?

  3. I like that you are focusing on one form of new media. I think that something of note that you could analyze is the accountability of those who post on pinterest. I've noticed that their is almost a social code that expects that those who post cite their sources. It's less about credibility and more about giving credit to where it is due. I think that is definitely a positive worth mentioning.

  4. Hello Christina. Prior to your posts about Pinterest I had never heard of the site so I'll try to be helpful. How exactly does Pinterest spark creativity in its users? I know it allows them to collect or "pin" topics that spark their interest, so is that how it sparks creativity? It sounds like a great organizational tool and when I went onto the site I saw that you could sign in through Facebook (another link to social media). Be sure to specify what demographic Pinterest is targetting and good luck on your essay.

  5. Pinterest is wonderful! I think you should also talk about how it can help us to relate to anyone and everyone. We can learn the secrets to making a super delicious apple pie, or learn how to crochet a special type of blanket.
One thing I would suggest is try to talk mainly about Pinterest. If you compare it to other sites/social media I would leave it for the end, or try to weave it in flawlessly. Facebook won't be too relevant, given your focus is Pinterest. By focusing more directly and specifically on analyzing the way messages shared through Pinterest and its message, you would reveal more in-depth insights about the impact of this certain medium in pop culture.

  6. I like that you chose pinterest. Its not the average social media site people pick. I personally really like it, depending on what I'm wanting to look up. Its a good way to put things you know how to do and share that knowledge with others, or it can be something another person or yourself found useful and wanted to share. It is also a good arts and craft type site. You interact with people via pictures, step-by-step instructions, helpful tips, etc. It is different from the other social sites in many ways. And I think its a great topic to expand on and learn about

  7. Like Justin said, I think it's good that you narrowed it down to one example of new media. I think that will enable you to find more significant information. Still, I like that you plan to compare Pinterest to other social mediums. However, I might try broadening the topic down instead of just focusing on the general effect it has on popular culture.
